Today’s card is the High Priestess. The third card in the whole dangole deck! I’ve drawn her a couple times recently. She is the divine feminine, she is the original definition of “virgin” as someone who “belongs to themselves.” If the Empress is a divine protector and lifegiver, the High Priestess is the raw, chthonic, literally awesome power that allows us to access life and death at all. Her truths are veiled in mystery which cannot be held except by accessing profound levels of ourselves. Releases like laughing, crying, and cumming can help us get there, as can hallucinogens, and dreams, but they aren’t always necessary. Everything magic and ineffable and spiritual contains in some part the High Priestess. So do we, represented in all the ways we surprise ourselves with our own healing, and discover answers and knowledge we didn’t know were there. Like the invisible inside of a shell, or our own minds. Also, this card from the Spacious Tarot looks like a mystical cunt. My divine fem invoking ritual of this week has been taking a bath every damn night and watching high femme classic films like: Jennifer’s Body, The House Bunny, and Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion. Only downside is I can’t find my waterproof vibrator. Please also note that feminine is an unfortunately gendered word that applies to qualities we all embody, and DOES NOT necessarily equate to female or woman. (CW: eating disorders/body dysmorphia) How’s your first week of Taurus season going? The sun’s transit from Aries → Taurus is always so much for me. From all the fire and movement to slowing way down and grounding. To being still and patient and feeling the sturdiness of the earth beneath our feet. That’s the challenge, especially after all of the momentum of Aries. Take a beat. Honor the natural gifts of the earth and our bodies. Assess how we’ve been going and only move forward when we are sure of the next step. Make our decisions with the intention of building reciprocity with the world around us, versus extracting from our surroundings. This shirt says ‘sturdy girl’ and it’s from the LA-based brand Salt and Sorcery (https://saltandsorcery.shop). I wasn’t emotionally prepared for how I’d feel putting it on. I’ve experienced intense body dysmorphia for most of my life and recently begun treatment for an eating disorder. I also love lifting weights and building my strength. But eating more and being more mindful of my relationship with exercise is scary and intense. In fact, I started this page in part as an outlet for the healing work I’m doing with my body. To embrace my physical self, sexuality, and sensuality in a more radical and honest way than before. So I felt really uniquely empowered in these photos, like there’s a unique intersection between sturdiness and sexiness that I’m carving out all for myself. Thank you for being here! (Ps. You know I HAD to bring out the horns for an Aries new moon! I had a lot of fun taking these photos (I mean, this robe is my favorite thing in my closet) and have a bunch more I’ll share over the next week or two. The new moon marks the simultaneous end of one lunation and beginning of the next. This is my first collective reading here and I’m thrilled with this offering. New moons offer a portal into the void where all possibilities swirl. There, we’re invited to allow whatever no longer serves us to dissipate, decompose. The matter that we cannot use in its current form may be repurposed, re-enriched. New moons encourage alchemy. 🌑 The reading!! Mind - Blue Morpho Butterfly Body - Kiwi Bird Spirit - Mushrooms Past: Knight of Cups Present: Ace of Swords Future: The Star 🌑 One thing we can count on, if not always control, is the gifts our mind will offer us: when we most need it, least expect it. The Ace of Swords in Present and Blue Morpho in Mind are really connected with each other here. Butterflies of course often represent rebirth which is relevant to the new moon. But I primarily feel that this card in Mind is also speaking to the mesmerizing beauty of what our intellect creates. The way Blue Morpho butterflies flash with iridescence, and the rarity of that blue pigmentation in nature. Playing with the Ace of Swords, we’re in this beautiful moment where we can tenderly hold a new idea when it is just ours. We’re on the verge of birthing this new idea into the external world, but we are at the distinct and precious instant before we set pen to paper, open our mouths, turn on the camera, etc. What potential are you holding and how can you honor your potential in this new lunar cycle? 🌑 The Kiwi in Body seems quite straightforward. Kiwis mate for life and lay the largest eggs in proportion to body size of any bird. Their eggs are ⅓ the size of the mama bird’s body. Allegorically, this is devotion to preservation and continuation of the species. Upon this new moon, how can we re-commit in our devotion to ourselves, to caring for our physical bodies? When we sit in the darkness of the new moon we can better tap into our bodies’ needs and wants. The Ace of Swords is about aligning with our truth before taking action, and the Kiwi insists that we must first honor our bodies to do so. 🌑 Mushrooms embrace the dark, and here in Spirit they offer to guide us into it, as well. Mushrooms are also decomposers, fueling their growth with. It is significant that this card is in Spirit, calling our attention to the work we’re doing to sit in the darkness, to process and repurpose what we’ve carried this far. The only way is through. 🌑 My friends know that I love the Knight of Cups. For me, personally, this card over the last year has represented my work to start a new career path that embraces my creativity and authentic self. Collectively speaking, in Past this card could ask “what did you create during the last lunar cycle that you’ve fallen in love with?” The Knight of Cups is romantic and pragmatic, creative and diligent, doing the work of expression in a grounded and mindful way. They have learned how to channel their imagination in fruitful ways. How have these characteristics influenced you in the recent past? How have you embodied them? And what have you learned through that process? 🌑 I already touched on the Ace of Swords but in the context of the cards beside it, there’s this moment of honoring. The Ace cards are all new opportunities in their own ways, and this is strengthened by The Star in Future. She was our Spring Equinox card! Following the Ace of Swords, she reminds us that we will need to exercise our faith as well as our intellect. The self-trust embodied in the Star is more profound than just existing in the conscious mind. The Ace of Swords indicates we are, in this moment, centering ourselves in truth before moving forward. May we internalize that truth into the source of hope and solace represented by the Star. What truths came forward during the new moon for you? How can you dissolve them into your being, osmose them into your cells? 🌑 For this reading I used my favorite go-to spread which I originally learned from Bakara Wintner. The top row is Mind/Body/Spirit (left-right) and the bottom row is Past/Present/Future. The top row represents deepening levels of internal awareness, and the bottom row contrasts that with external circumstances. 🌑 I also paired the Nocturna oracle deck with a tarot deck here. Nocturna is a beautiful deck by Megan Wyreweden that I always use on New Moons and was designed in part with that intention. It features creatures, lifeforms, and phenomena all centering around the theme of night and nocturnal activity. The Tarot Deck used here is Lady Tarot Cards, an inclusive, collaborative project by LGBT women and non-binary artists for LGBT women and non-binary people. 🌑 If you made it this far, THANK YOU! Conjunction is the aspect when planets are within 8 degrees of each other in the same sign, and the qualities of these planets blend into each other. Only tenuously related to that astrology: I made my partner watch me do this for like 20 minutes last night. The moon is connected to our bodies as well as our emotional selves. I’ve been thinking about the sun (the star) and The Sun (the tarot card, XIX of the Major Arcana) a lot this week. I love coming up with specific anecdotal examples for how tarot cards express themselves in our daily lives. Last night was a direct portal into The Sun card for me. Context: the past couple of weeks have been non-stop (in a good way!). Aries season is always intensely activating for me and brings about motivation and creative energy. My work, personal, sex, creative lives are all full of excitement and promise right now. But it’s fatiguing to be at 11 all the time. Last night after an intense therapy session, at the end of a long week, I was feeling a real comedown. The makings of an emotional hangover. A resistance to slow down even though my body and mind were telling me to. I put on my Aries season playlist (link below) while I did the dishes in golden hour, smoked some weed, took some nudes, did my stupid dancing. I found a little release and a little surrender to silly pleasure. I realized The Sun card is the moment you feel fully, unwaveringly yourself. The ecstasy of being embodied in who you are. Feeling that the truest you is shining through. That’s vulnerable. That’s tender. It’s nourishing. And like Aries, in that moment we don’t give a fuck what anyone thinks of us. The confidence of Aries is necessarily vulnerable. Aries does something they love without caring whether they are good at it or not. The ego is still present here but it’s in balance, it’s helping us express ourselves honestly. On Thursday, 4/8, the sun reached its point of exaltation at 19 degrees of Aries. Rooted in Hellenistic astrology, the planets are ascribed signs of exaltation and sometimes degrees of exaltation are included. When planets are exalted their qualities are expressed with full strength. Some argue that Aries’ passionate and self-directed style best channels the life-giving force of the sun. The sun in astrology connects to our identity and ego, hence why the sign of the sun at our birth is usually treated as the main sign. Eg. “I’m a Cancer” also means “I’m a Cancer sun.” The first time I encountered nuance around The Sun card was in @bakaraw ‘s “WTF is Tarot?”. The sun gives life but can also burn away. Unbridled joy is welcome after the devastation of the Tower and intense exploration of the Moon. The next card after The Sun is Judgement, in which we absolve ourselves and ascend into a new chapter. The Sun reminds us that incessant, unquestioning “love and light” leads to destruction. The toxicity of sun poisoning, the dehydration of all sun and no rain. When we seek to engage the Sun with only ego, we’ll burn out quickly and likely burn those around us. If we’re to reach the forgiveness and self-love of Judgement, vulnerability and accountability are essential. The Sun shows up embodied in the ego as a tool at our disposal, and exalted in Aries we’re asked how we’ll handle that tool. I also believe it requires vulnerability to feel the joy and excitement of this card. How vulnerable are the first stalks of daffodils boldly striking up above the still-decomposing detritus. How the bare branches of trees bask in the expanding light of the sun before their buds even appear. Tomorrow night/early Monday (depending on your timezone) brings the new moon in Aries. The new moon is an opportunity to release. I look forward to expanding on this post and sharing a collective new moon tarot reading with you in a few days.
