Our last night in Malta was EPIC 🤯
We were having our last dinner out, celebrating two of our friends in the group (of 8 girls in total) whose birthday it was 🎂 when towards the end someone sent a couple bottles of champagne to our table 🍾

It was also a Michelin star restaurant ⭐️ so the total bill was probably over €1k for the 8 of us and all the bottles they got 🤑 It certainly was a shock to the system to go from that treatment to being broke at my 9 to 5 again the following day 🙈

today we visited the small Maltese isle of Comino (Kemmuna) called this because it’s in the middle (common) point between Malta and Gozo (Ghawdex). It was a beautiful, small, peaceful and secluded island despite the close proximity to two bigger location and there we found the man who cherishes freedom 😁
That’s just a nickname I gave him because the first thing he told me as I was walking up the hill dancing is that this is the land where everyone can dance freely 💃🏼 I felt a connection because he looked like someone from here that became quite special for me: long silver hair, kind smile, and a joint between his lips 😉

Today is the **Orthodox Christmas**, which is the one observed by my mum’s side of the family 🥰 so we visited my grandparents and had an elaborate traditional feast prepared by my grandmother ❤️
There was:
- **холодец** 🍲 maybe the weirdest dish out of them all for the non-familiars. It’s a garlicky soup that sets as a jelly and a true master is meant to achieve this without any additional gelatine, simply due to the cartilageous meat used for it (e.g. rooster’s crest or pig skin)
- **chicken in dough** 🍗 my grandma’s special! chicken thighs and wings cooked inside a crispy dough dome. My dad jokes that the reason he married my mum is to be able to have this at least once a year at Christmas (and if he’s lucky at Easter too)
- **голубцы** 🥬 more common around the world as vine leaves
- and an array of pickles, including **pickled watermelon** 🍉 home made noodles, roasted potatoes and other delicious things I adore and always look forward to
Of course, this was also topped up by a lovely cheese platter to honour our French side too 😋
Overall I had a beautiful day to mark the end of my stay home as I’m leaving tomorrow 🥺 I am a bit sad about this of course, but on the bright side, this means a return to more *traditional* posts 😉😘

📸 5-6: American take on Georgian хинкали (khinkali) and Russian пирожки (pirojki) and the very traditional red борщ (borscht) 😋 I came to the conclusion that every nation has a dish that could be universally called « dumplings » and these are the Georgian version 🥟 Traditionally, when I tried them in Georgia 🇬🇪 they were served in the soup they were cooked in so when you bite into them all the juices ooze out in a delicious mess 🤤 These, as you can see, are a bit dryer, but they were still delicious ☺️ The pirojki were a bit flakier than I know them to be usually and the borsht was tasty, although sweeter and less runny than normal 🍲 I also had the red borscht from Veselka, a Ukrainian restaurant in East village, which you can see in one of my previous posts, and that was certainly the winner of the borscht battle 😂
