Good morninggg☺️ Something that I love about soapmaking is that I am constantly learning new things, new techniques, new ingredients, how to make my recipes better, things that will just overall benefit me as well as anyone who uses my soaps. I have recently discovered natural tussah silk, which can be used for soap making, spinning, blending, felting, dyeing, and paper making! It is supposed to give your soaps a more silky, and luxurious feeling, as well as making it shinier in appearance.✨ Who wouldn’t want that?
I can’t wait to start Incorporating this stuff into my soaps!!
I have a feeling I will be using it allll the time. 😄

Today I’m gonna be making my own indigo blue infused oil to use in a new batch of soap I’m planning.💙 indigo blue is a natural blue powder that has been used for thousands of years to dye clothing and cosmetics. In cold process soaps, this powder gives the soap a beautiful denim blue color!👖🤩 The name indigo blue actually gives away the origin of where it came from, India! 😍 A long time ago, this beautiful blue powder was very rare, and only obtainable by royalty because of its extremely high price. Now it is accessible to all! For that I am very grateful, this is the perfect choice in soap making for those who want a pop of true blue in their soaps, but choose to achieve that color naturally. 😌

I’ve talked a bit about sodium hydroxide, but what is potassium hydroxide (KOH)? Well, similarly to sodium hydroxide it is an inorganic compound, lye! However potassium hydroxide is used specifically in making liquid soaps.🧴
KOH is caustic🔥 so always be sure to wear your safety gear when messing around with this stuff!
I am new to using potassium hydroxide, as I have been focusing primarily on creating cold process soap‘s so far.
But I can’t wait to share more future recipes with you all where I incorporate this.😌

Jojoba oil is one of my favorite oils out there, I don’t use it in high amounts in my soap unfortunately because it can destroy the lather😕…however it is a great antioxidant as it is full of vitamin E, giving it magic healing properties✨ 😉 This stuff is super conditioning to skin and hair and traps in moisture as soon as it comes into contact. 😍 What are some of your favorite oils or butters?
