A coconut chocolate “bounty ball” beside a fresh brew of jasmine tea, a new novel about a pirate queen and some air conditioning on a hot Bali afternoon. This is my afternoon relaxation/inspiration/research session today. noise canceling headphones on feeding my ears this playlist. I’ve been listening to it all week while writing. It has just the right flavor of mystical, exotic adventure to keep my imagination flowing pirates and mermaid stories onto the paper. I’m surprised my creativity is so inspired by this culture I haven’t even been thinking of. Haha https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2GTrx4NF7Wi0kWrbhXW0kz?si=tHd3r26oRzO25rht4Dm9gw Book Update: these past couple weeks I’ve been focused on structure, crafting the spine, getting the plot straight…or not so straight. I’ve been writing sex scenes that feel simultaneously thrilling and elegant. I’ve felt the traumas rise up and I’ve dealt with them head on in the story and I’m real life. My writing coach, my book doula, says at this stage in the process we are expecting this… the story and my real life resemble each other, I’ll feel contractions of fear as the project and impending birth of this new artwork becomes more real. It’s a transition stage… the stage when it hits that this is really happening, that I’m actually doing it. I’m reading about pirates now…Blackbeard and Zheng Yi Sao are inspiring me. And you? What are you inspired by right now? Love!!!!! Cha
