I am not good at sitting still and spending time savoring the flavor of my coffee. I drink a cup almost every morning, but usually I’m gulping it down while I’m running out the door. There aren’t many mornings that I sit to take these few extra minutes to enjoy, but when I do I rarely regret it. A few minutes to yourself can give you a chance to collect some thoughts, make a game plan for the day, and decide where you want to direct your attention. Over the last couple of years and especially these last few months I have been tirelessly trying to find a way to be less tired and to slow down. A close friend pointed out to me that every time we decide to do something we say yes to that thing… in return we are saying no to something else. This tiny little phenomenon of considering that each thing we do is a yes to that, and a no to something else, is an important concept to consider. This simple decision drives every aspect of our being, determines our course and our life. Have you thought about what you are telling yes and what in exchange was told no? Did you say yes to something worthwhile and no to something less than? Or do you need to shift your yes to something greater? Careers sometimes have a way of slowly taking control of us, persuading us to give away what should be a more coveted yes. If a career has begun stealing your yes too often, then maybe it’s time to reconsider what it has been convincing you to tell no. This new perspective has helped me to become more diligent about determining what gets my yes and no. One does not really exist without the other. I hope to make more thoughtful yes answers because the things that my correct yes’ do usually lead to more smiles, more joy, and more positivity to my life and the ones around me. In case you are wondering the point of this post it’s just to say I am smiling over my yes to OF.
